Robbers Struck At GTBank Sabo, Kills Student, Many Others Injured

Leye was killed by a stray bullet from the robbers
It's a day many would not forget for as long as they live, when terrifying looking men of the underworld struck in broad daylight at a branch of GTBank, Sabo, Sagamu in Ogun State on November 24, 2011, carting away a substantial amount of money, value of which has not been fully ascertained and in the wake of the dare-devil attack they left pain, anguish and irreparable sorrow.
The heavily armed robbers were said to announced themselves early yesterday morning by shooting sporadically into the air to scare all and sundry and caused commotion, in the pandemonium that ensured, they had easy access to the bank, and carted away a yet to be disclosed, but thought to be large amount of money and other valuables they could lay hands on. In the aftermath, several of the bank staffs were said to have been injured, several fatality was recorded in their bid to escape, unconfirmed report says about 10 people made up of vigilantes and bystanders were killed by stray bullets.
Curiously, we hear that apart from the fact that the money stolen and other valuables were INSURED, the staff members whose lives are constantly online in the course of their jobs do not enjoy the same privilege! .  We tried getting the response of the GTBank spokesperson-Ogechi Nwachukwu on the development, but she didn't respond to our enquiry.
We also heard that the same rampaging marauders after escaping the scene of their dastardly act in order to escape from the Police detoured through Isara and came out through Konigbe Junction on Mini-Campus road (Olabisi Onabanjo University), and went on rampage again robbing the OOU Community Bank located along that road, in order to escape from that particular scene , they let loose several rounds of ammunition which caused pandemonium in that area, one of the confirmed casualties recorded of that particular incidence was a 400 Level student of the department of Chemical Science, who was supposed to submit his final year project today November 25,2011. Leye Balogun was said to have just come of the bathroom still in his towel, when he was hit by a stray bullet on his right side, he was later rushed to about 3 hospitals-Fountain Hospital, Ijesha road, OOU Health Center Mini-Campus road & later Ijebu-Ode General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
There seems to be the air of palpable fear in Ogun State right now, as robbers seem to be having a field day, just recently rampaging robbers entered the main campus of the Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State, robbing 5 of the banks inside the campus of very large amount of money, wounding many and several unconfirmed number of people ( some say about 3 score and 10 people), were said to have met their untimely death. Robbers were also said to have robbed the Wema Bank branch inside Babcock University,Ilisan, Ogun State about 2 weeks ago.

  2. Will our Governments ever listen? What they are more interested in is sacking waziri who is diligently doing her job. People are dying every day, lives are been wasted, yet nothing is done about security or good road in the country. Keep taking the billions abroad, one day the Lord will judge you all for stealing our money and still using it to oppress us. Rest in peace leye. This is really sad.

  4. No security in this country. Ogun State is so terrible. What is their dulling Gov. doing. Amosun stop sleeping and help save lives. How can this young guy die of a straight bullet from a robbery operation? Not even a justified death. Stop sleeping Amosun. All you do is invite Obasanjo to every occasion addressing him as your godfather. Who cares? U are such a disgrace to CAN, what have we got to do with PDP. Hiss

  13. This is so sad. See why everyone runs away from Nigeria?
Imagine if they use these weapons in even more densely populated places like Lagos. According to reports, the robbers had very sophisticated weapons with bullets able to travel quite a distance. I shudder at the thought. Lord keep my family safe in that country.

  14. ladun i know its a typo but did you mean STRAY BULLET as opposed to the STRAIGHT BULLET?
THIS IS REALLY SAD,I DO HOPE THE GOV WITH HIS CAP LIKE MOUNTAIN KILIMANJARO WILL WAKE UP TO HIS DUTIES AND SAFEGUARD THE STATE.NIGERIA NEEDS TO APPROACH SECURITY LIKE THE UNITED STATES, WE NEED NOT ONLY FEDERAL POLICE BUT STATE AND REGIONAL AS WELL AS VOLUNTEER ARMED SECURITY THE POLICE NEED TO BE INTELLIGENCE GATHERERS NOT JUST REACTING TO ATTacks
