About 10 years ago I was just 14 and was in a boarding school and constantly sick, but this time, I had vaginal iches, being the kind of child I was, I told my mom who decided to take me to a gynecologist. It was normal for me as I was constantly in and out the hospital so it was no big deal.We got to the hospital and the gynecologist who was a man and apparently the best and most popular one amongst rich folks told me to undress and lay down, my mom was not in the room. The gynecologist literally used the big virginal speculum that is used on none virgins and his fingers. I was bleeding and he gave me pad and told me to get dressed. He told my mom I'd had an abortion and was hiding it that is why I am bleeding and I have the itches, he said it in front of me. I was so confused and terrified. My mom didn't take him seriously. She called her Dr. in France who told her what to get for me at the pharmacy for itches. We went home. I didn't tell my mom what I went through in here because I was still terrified.
I finally had sex 2years ago and I didn't bleed, it was my first time. I don't play with my pussy ever. I thought maybe all girls don't bleed but apparently they all do.
I go for gynecology check-ups and I am in so much pain from the speculum. I stopped having sex because it is painful. People tell me I have had a bad sexual experience. Now I know what it was. From what I told the girls, they said the Dr disvirgined me as I'd not even started having periods before that and they're all Rn's out here.
Now mothers and daughters, please be careful with this so called Dr's from abroad or this Dr's in general. I will hate for my Daughter to go through what I went through. They will say anything and prescribe anything.
Mothers do not leave minor young girls with any gynecologist for any reason, they can't be trusted at all. A lot of these people were nurses abroad and because of our system they pass as Dr's in Africa and inflict traumatizing experiences upon us. There's other ways to get tested for those things and coming from a boarding school being a virgin, the Dr should have known it was sugar sugar, common amongst girls in boarding schools.

ReplyDelete- That he's a gynecologist to the rich and famous does not necessarily make him a good gynecologist.
- Speculums come in different sizes and the doc should have known to use a smaller size- which proves my first point. Also, lubrication is normally used for speculum examinations to avoid pain and bleeding.
- She was bleeding and he gave her a pad and told her to get dressed. Wonder what else he would have done- packed cotton wool up her privates?
- It was crass and unethical for the doctor to announce that she'd had an abortion (even though she says she didn't). Still proves my first point.
Then, if the lady's mother could phone-a-doc in France, and if they were wealthy enough to be patients of a 'gynecologist to the wealthy and famous', why couldn't they go to a reputable Ob-Gyn whose work speaks for him/her, rather than to one whose worth is measured by his patients' bank accounts?
ALSO, not all females bleed during their first time. Most, not all. Some people are born without a hymen, some with flimsy strips of tissue that can be removed without much trauma.
Another Also: a gynecological examination is not done with relatives present. The doctor should have a chaperone (usually a nurse) present, to preempt accusations of molestation, but not a relative. There's no way her mother would have been there in the examination room.
To the writer: I'm sorry for the trauma you went through, but please do not malign an entire profession because of a questionable practitioner.

gynacologist can neva be trusted.. i remembered being pregnant at 16 and my friend took me to a gynacologist without my mom knowing..the dr induced me and forced his way inside me ..i was too tired and in pain to even scream ..this was done at his clinic in his house and his wife as just next door..after raping me he had the operation done ,i was bleeding so badly and he just asked me to get up wear my clothes and go.av never being humiliated ,couldnt bring myself to tell my mom or my friend..up till today ,am 37yrs now,i still remembers this and felt that pain.i definately wouldnever allow my daughter with any man.smh

THERE ARE BAD EGGS IN EVERY PROFESSION.That being said I am glad this particular case was highlighted.A lot of things are wrongly done in Nigeria and the more awareness is created the more alert people would be considering the fact that there is absolutely no regulatory body that does its work properly in Nigeria.
If you are going to have an intimate examination done;be it vaginal,cervical,breast,groin etc etc DEMAND FOR A CHAPEROONE.It is your right and make sure you demand that at least a nurse be present.
In saner climes the dr would have been prosecuted and his licence revoked but alas this is Nigeria and the abnormal has sort of become the norm.
And again I do sincerely apologize for your bad experience but pls dont lump us all together.There are still so many ethical drs.
I do believe your story and I'm sorry you had to go through that. A lot of people keep quiet about these things cos of fear of being judged by ignorant people like lilspicer. I was abused by a top consultant in LUTH when I was 13! He put his fingers in me, and told me to stick out my tongue for inspection, and he sucked on my tongue with his mouth, while his finger was still inside me. I pushed him off and got off the table, pulled up my underwear and ran out of the office. I couldn't tell anyone, my mother saw this DR as a god. It put me off going for appointments afterwards and I somehow convinced my mum to let me go for my outpatient clinics alone, once she agreed to this, I just go to a friend's house for the whole duration of the clinic, write in a new appointment date in my card and this went on for years with no one knowing I wasn't going for clinics. I could get away with this cos I was getting good private care. I later saw the evil DR when I gained admission to university and I just used to stare him down. Always wished I could destroy him and ruin his career. I'm so over it now and happily married and have a good sexual life. So yes, some DRs do molest and abuse their patients.
